chapter......the Delaware Valley Dames! My name is Lori and I’m very excited about sharing my love of hiking with you. I’ve been camping, hiking and just generally being a tom-boy since I was a little girl. I’ve always loved it. I’ ve also always been a curvy person. I joke that at age 47 I still have an hour glass figure, but I’m ticking off more than one hour! I’m the mother of two sons who are now 20 and 18 years old. For a whole bunch of years I was very active in their boy scout activities. I was an assistant scoutmaster and spent a lot of time volunteering with boys, and I was usually the only female in the group. Now that my boys are done with scouting, it’s time to add adults and estrogen to my life! As the leader of the Delaware Valley Chapter of Trail Dames, I’d like to offer monthly hikes that focus on friendships made and the laughs echoed into the world. I’d like to start with some easily accessed trails in our area with lovely scenery. And if you’re up for it, we can even plan a backpacking trip or two each year. I’m excited to meet you and to see where this will go in the future. I hope you’ll join me. Let’s walk and laugh, and explore the trails. Let’s feel good about ourselves and make new friends along the way! -Lori ********************************************* Upcoming hikes: Saturday, December 13, 2008 10:30 a.m. Wissahickon Gorge and Forbidden Drive Meet at the Valley Green Inn in Fairmount Park for an approximately 3 mile hike along Forbidden Drive and the Wissahickon Creek. Carry water and bring lunch for a winter picnic, if weather permits. Meet in the main parking lot off of Edge Hill Road. Directions can be found at: http://www.pennypacktrust.org/ Saturday, February 21, 2009 Delaware Canal State Park Ahhh! The Delaware Valley in mid winter! What will the weather be like? Will we be hip-deep in blizzard snows, or will the jet stream have shifted bringing us 60 degree weather? That’s the fun part of living in this lovely place. The entire trail is 60 miles-long, but we’ll just do a short section of that. The section that we hike will be determined later as the weather this winter reveals itself. The trail is flat and passes through lovely river towns. Check back for details. |
