Welcome to Our Newest Chapter........ Trail Dames Austin! We are so glad to have our Texas friends join us in celebrating the outdoors! Watch this page for changes in the next few weeks as our Austin Dames get up and running. Your illustrious leader is the fabulous Tamara! "My name is Tamara, and I am the leader of the Austin , Texas chapter of Trail Dames. Up until just a few weeks ago, I had never thought of hiking as something I could actually enjoy. Having been a curvy girl for most of my life, I always shied away from sports and outdoor activities. My husband is an outdoor enthusiast, and enjoys extreme sports like martial arts, rock climbing, repelling, mountain biking, and hiking. I never enjoyed these activities properly with him. I always felt like I was holding him back because my pace was decidedly slower and more plodding than his. And it is a rare sight to see another curvy woman out on the trails, so I always ended up feeling like a big, slow fish out of water. And then I found a link to Trail Dames. Nature is out there for everyone to enjoy – including you and me. The idea of being able to get out and experience the outdoors without worrying about holding up the group or what everyone is thinking about me had never crossed my mind before. I think Anna really started a great project here, and I am super excited to be a part of that! My intention is to create a group of women who can laugh together and experience everything fully and without fear. I have some really great plans rolling around in my mind, and I would love to have you along for the journey.

In the meantime, here are some helpful hints for making your hike fabulous! 1. Always carry a bottle of water and a snack. 2. Keep an eye out for your fellow hikers......Dames always watch out for each other. 3. Good tennis shoes will be just fine on most trails. Don't feel the need to spend lots of money on expensive boots! 4. Hiking poles are a Dames best friend! You can certainly hike without one, but you would be surprised how wonderful a simple, sturdy stick is for climbing hills and protecting your knees! |
