What does it take to start your own chapter?

Starting a Trail Dames chapter can be incredibly rewarding. In theory, one hike a month is all it takes. It is that simple. If you are willing to find and lead one outing a month, then you have yourself a TD group! Once the group is started, you may find that you enjoy it so much that you want to do other things... parties, fund raising, or working for a local cause. But that is totally up to you!
The first steps to take are:

1. Review the document below- Head Dame Position Description.
2. Contact us with any questions you may have.
3. Fill out the Head Dame Questionnaire and mail it to info@traildames.com.

What do we ask of you?

We ask that you fully understand and support the goals and ideals of Trail Dames. That means hiking slowly and making sure that all women feel welcome. We are a group that celebrates the trail and wants to share it with others.

We ask for a minimum of a year-long commitment. Once you start a chapter, you will have members that come to really rely on the group, so it takes a sense of dedication. You will be helping to inspire women and change their lives...it is not a commitment to make lightly.

We ask that you take a wilderness first aid class and a Leave No Trace class at some point during the first year.

What will we do for you?

We will connect you with an existing Head Dame for support, so that any questions you have can be answered.

We will do anything we can to help you find hikes and schedule them.

We will take care of the website and set up a page dedicated to your and your Dames. Then you would take care of scheduling and communications within your chapter.

We will also provide a link to the flier for you to post and send you business cards to hand out.

Finally, Trail Dames will provide a waiver for all Dames to sign. All hikers hike at their own risk. Trail Dames provides liability insurance for Head Dames and Hike Leaders.

Trail Dames started as one group of women in Georgia...Now Trail Dames has chapters all over the country and we continue to grow! We really do plan to take over the world, one trail at a time.
