Ever Wonder What Kind of Woman is a Dame? Or What our Dames are Up To? Dames are extraordinary women and here are some of the things they have been doing..... |
Meet Sandy, one of our favorite Trail Dames! Sandy is famous for wearing the hugest grin you ever saw...even when climbing a mountain! Not content to just laugh, hike and hang out...Sandy went that extra effort and wrote the following... Trail Dames Trail Dames are bound to the end We'll always be a loyal friend We're nature-hearted souls blazing paths with our poles lending out a helping hand Climbing to the mountain tops carrying our sleeping cots forging the wooded streams adding to our dreams Sleeping out under the stars Trail Dames are women of worth Our strength is not inour girth Respecting trail rules backpacking all our tools We're gonna dance upon this earth.... -Sandy, Trail Dame '07 (sung to the tune of 'Delta Dawn') We consider ourselves so lucky to know her! |
| This years Memory Walk was a HUGE success!! The Trail Dames Team Raised $780 for Alzheimers Research Way to go ladies!!!! |
One of our all-time favorite Dames, Lite Shoe, (known in civilized society as Jan Leitschuh), just published her book The Ordinary Adventurer Well, there is nothing ordinary about Lite Shoe!! After hiking the Long Trail in Vermont and the Appalachian Trail, she finally gave into her adoring fans and wrote a book! This past December, the Dames were honored to have her as our guest speaker at the Hike Inn. She read excerpts from her book, signed copies, and answered questions about women and hiking. It was a magical evening. This tale of her Long Trail hike is perfect for all dreamers and arm-chair adventurers! Order your copy at The Ordinary Adventurer |

hearted Dame has been at it again! This is what she has to say... I am working with a new group called Con Kerr. They make brightly colored pillow cases for children, teenagers, who have cancer and are going thru Chemo. This group was started by a family who lost their 12 year old son, due to cancer. www.conkerrcancer.org I also work with a group called Chemo Angels. Which send a card or two a week to someone who is going through chemo. You also can send small gifts. And you commit to them till they are finished with Chemo. www.chemoangels.com I am a rain drop in the river, but that drop creates a ripple and it is a start. -Donna |

Cynthia is working on this..... Athens Indie Craftstravaganzaa will be hosting a silent auction to benefit the liver transplant fund of 12 yr old Olivia Grace King. Olivia has a rare form of cystic fibrosis that attacks her liver. Olivia rec'd her first liver transplant in 2000. During the operation Olivia developed a thrombosis. This setback caused other complications over the years and it has now reached a point where her doctors believe she will need a second transplant very soon. Her family needs to raise $185,000 for this lifesaving surgery. Please consider making a donation to our silent auction - an item we can sell, a gift certificate. You can also make a monetary donation at Olivia's website - www. oliviagking.com Your gift can be tax deductible. If you'd like to make a donation to our fundraiser, please contact cindy You can keep up with Olivia's journal |
